Would you please let me know if you cannot read the
attached message written in Japanese?

そこで、 "the attached message" を捜したのですが見つからない。
これまでに頂いた添付ファイルにはクリップマークがあり、すぐにわかるのですが、
この attached が見つからない。
この方は私が日本人であることを知っているので
"if you cannot read" は "if you cannot find"のことかな、と思ったわけです。
パソコンのメカに弱い私はあちこちクリックしたり、プロパティを読んだりしたがわからない。
何度か英文と日本文を読み比べ、
破線 「------------ U01.JIS follows ----------------」の
すぐ下にある日本文が attached であろうと結論し、次の返事を出しました。
"I'm sorry to bother you again, but could you please read
the attached message written in Japanese?"
の attached はfollowing の方がいいように思われます。
実は、はじめ添付ファイルがあるのかと勘違いして捜してしまいました。
ネイティブも勘違いするかも知れないと思いまして。. |
すると、すかさず返事が来ました。
Thank you very much for your suggestion about wordings
in my mail. In order to send a Japanese message from my
Alphabet - oriented machine, I need to make a file on
Japanese wordprocessor and literally attach it to the mail.
So in my machine, the Japanese part in the Attachment
Box appears separate from the Message Box, and you
have to double-click the file to read it.
So I have sent dozens of mails so far, saying "open the
attached message" without knowing that it actually
follows the English message in the recipient machine,
instead of being attached . I might have confused lots
of people.

No attachment this time.

なんだ、パソコンのメカが違うんだ、と納得。それにしても、この方の英文、巧みですね。
